Laser Therapy

LLLT helps tissues, including muscles, nerves, and bones, heal faster.

Depending on your pet’s condition, we may recommend Low-Level Laser Therapy (LLLT) to help ease pain, heal wounds, and help regenerate nerves.
LLLT helps tissues, including muscles, nerves, and bones, heal faster by triggering the body’s natural healing mechanisms. Laser therapy is like a non-invasive push in the right direction that gets the body to ramp up the energy in the places that need it most. At Animal Cove Pet Hospital, we perform laser therapy for pets in Foster City and the surrounding areas and are here to help you determine if this treatment is right for your pet.

What is Laser Therapy?

Image
When used properly, this type of cold laser application can improve tissue repair and decrease inflammation, resulting in long-term pain reduction in the treated area. Cells that have been stressed by injury or disease produce nitric oxide internally. This slows them down and causes additional stress. Referred to as ‘oxidative stress,’ this can damage the cells through inflammation or even cause cell death in the affected area. By stimulating the powerhouse of the cells (mitochondria) with laser light, laser therapy lets the oxygen that was displaced from the cells by nitric oxide back in, so that the cells can get back in working order. Those mitochondrial powerhouses can then run smoother, leading to overall improvements in inflammation.
