In-House Diagnostics

Our veterinarians are able to perform a wide range
of diagnostic tests in-house.
A good veterinarian - such as the ones here at Animal Cove Pet Hospital - can tell a lot about an animal’s health by performing a hands-on physical exam.
Sometimes, though, they need to look a bit deeper to determine what sort of problem a pet is suffering from or to create a baseline health profile for a patient. Our veterinarians are able to perform a wide range of diagnostic tests in-house rather than needing to send patients elsewhere. This results in less stress for pets and their owners and typically is faster and less costly than relying on outside diagnostics. We are thrilled to provide in-house diagnostics for pets in Foster City and offer all of the many benefits of these services to our patients and their owners.

Our In-House Diagnostic Services

Our facility is equipped with a complete range of state-of-the-art diagnostic equipment which we use to diagnose everything from serious diseases like parvovirus and feline leukemia to common ear infections. We also use this equipment to monitor blood levels, check for certain types of parasites, and more.
Our in-house laboratory allows us to test blood, urine, and fecal samples and is used for both routine and diagnostic purposes. We also have diagnostic imaging equipment that allows us to peer deep inside your pet’s body and view their organs, bones, ligaments, etc.

Pet Diagnostics FAQs
What types of health conditions can be detected with routine lab work for pets?
Routine lab work can detect many health conditions, including kidney disease, liver problems, diabetes, infections, anemia, and thyroid imbalances. It can also identify early signs of illness that may not yet be visible through physical symptoms.
How quickly can I expect results from in-house pet testing?
Most in-house tests provide results within the same day, allowing us to promptly discuss findings and treatment options with you. This quick turnaround is one of the key advantages of in-house diagnostics.
Why does my pet need diagnostic tests if they seem healthy?
Diagnostic testing is not only for diagnosing illnesses. Certain tests, like blood work or a urinalysis, also establish a baseline for your pet’s health. Routine testing can help detect early signs of potential issues, allowing for preventive care and early intervention.
Do you perform all diagnostic testing in-house, or are some tests sent to external labs?
While we offer a range of in-house diagnostic services for pets, some specialized tests may need to be sent to a trusted reference lab for analysis. They have the equipment to provide the most accurate and thorough diagnostic evaluation possible. You will be contacted once we have received your pet’s results.
